Silicon photovoltaic modules comprise ~90% of the photovoltaic modules manufactured and sold worldwide. This online textbook provides an introduction to the technology used to manufacture screen-printed silicon solar cells and important manufacturing concepts such as device design, yield, throughput, process optimisation, reliability, in-line quality control and fault diagnosis. This online textbook can be used as a stand-alone reference work for PV manufacturing.
At UNSW Sydney we use this online textbook together with the online virtual solar cell production line “PV Factory” (https://factory.pvlighthouse.com.au/) to educate our students about the manufacturing of silicon wafer solar cells.
